NINA MARTIN

INTRODUCTION TO CYANOTYPE

Sun Nov 24th

10am - 4pm

$250 / $210 members

In this workshop we will explore the basic process of printmaking with cyanotype, creating fun and interesting prints or “photograms" on paper. Cyanotype is an alternative photographic printing process invented in 1842, often referred to as sun prints as the process involves exposing a UV light sensitive surface to the sun to develop.

You will be introduced to the chemicals used, how to mix them, and coat your paper; how to expose your paper to create photograms using found objects and simple contact prints using a variety of textured materials. The aim of the workshop is to equip you with the basic skills and knowledge to continue creating beautiful cyanotypes at home.

Below is a list of materials you may wish to bring to experiment with:

- Negative and positive images printed on clear transparency, these can include images of your artworks and or photographs.

-Organic matter such as leaves, flowers or weeds, any plant material that you find interesting

-3D objects such as feathers, cut glass, lace, stencils, patterned cellophane, sheer clothing/ fabrics.

Just about anything that will fit on the surface of an A4 sheet of paper.

Do not worry if you don’t have anything to bring, as all essential materials will be provided as well as a selection of plant materials and other objects that can be used to create photograms.
