Ruth Stanton
Shirley Joan Ross Scholarship Show
Ruth Stanton is the recipient of the
Shirley Joan Ross Scholarship 2026, which awards an
emerging artist a solo exhibition here at FPS.
Ruth’s work is inspired by the relationships between ceramics and the landscapes in which they are made, travel through,
and end up. Her exploration of 青花瓷(qīng huā cí) or blue and white porcelain, began with her first residency in Tianjin, China,
where she focused on Chinese ceramics and used water as a point of connection between her home city of Melbourne, and Tianjin,
both port cities. She has since had two further residencies in China and continues to use detailed line work, aquatint etching
techniques and a lot of blue ink to capture vast waves and delicate porcelain.
