Tales of a Type: The Illustrated Letterpress
Sally Nansen, R.I. Sutton and Kain White
Group Exhibition
Kain White and R.I. Sutton publish hand-set letterpress books under their imprint The
Harebrained Press. Their latest publication Every Thing That Lives Is Holy is an
accordion-style book celebrating the work of English poet, artist and visionary William Blake and his
philosophies on humanity, eternity and the natural world.
Under the imprint Morris & Company Press, Sally Nansen uses hand-set letterpress, hand
carved illustration blocks and her own tales to create limited-run art books. With the
19th-century design of an ephemeral children’s book, Sally’s The Birds -A Fairytale, is inspired
by the decay of spiritual connection since the onset of the Industrial Revolution, urging for
a renewed covenant with all life.
