Alison Lucardis first solo show was an interesting mixed media of video stills collaged onto a printed background. She aimed to celebrate the female form and her representations were of herself pole dancing. The strong black and whites in her signature pieces were very graphic and a number of people commented that they would be very strong as very large works. The images were monumental and needed a monumental format. This type of large format is often outside the budget of an artist unfortunately. Maybe Alison will be able to work on these graphic images. This is not to imply that these in the exhibition are not worthy in themselves, but rather that they left us wanting more.
Alison also had some works she had made on backgrounds of handmade paper that she had made from old denim. These backgrounds had a lovely look and gave an unexpected texture to the photographs. I found them very appealing.
Alison is a delightful person and I hope she continues her art practice. It was a pleasure and an honour to have been able to work with her on her first show.
