Collagraph / Monoprint - The Print Kitchen
This information packed three-day class explores and expands the potential of both Collagraph and Monoprinting techniques new and old creating unique and graphic images on Paper. Artists are invited to bring older plates either Collagaph, Etching or linoleum plates and embed them with new plates to make a new but familiar alphabet. However this is not compulsory. We will learn the multiple plate system from scratch including registration techniques , layering plates, ink application and stenciling too. Water based drawing techniques will be demonstrated that then will be integrated into the final image .The Collagraph technique will also be introduced in this process, as a vital component to the overall image .We will learn how to scrape, incise and perforate the surface to create wonderful textures of pattern and organic line. Sarah will also share her own work to illustrate techniques and give independent and class critiques to all participants. Sarah has taken this printmaking discipline to a new level due to her persistent experimentation and her refined aesthetic.
Amos is enthralled with the Collagraphtechnique that she has perfected over 28 years of experience. The multiple plate processand layering technique that Amos primarily uses is a wonderful way to marry both a rich painterly and graphic surface with both oil paint , Etching ink and acrylic, The use of Non Toxic materials are also emphasized and discussed at length due to Amos’s heightened sensitivity to such materials during her printmaking career. Artists can expect to create a body of work (6-12 finished prints) during this workshop and are encouraged to explore and play. Prior experience is not necessary but some printmaking knowledge is beneficial. Sarah Amos lives in Vermont, USA where she teaches Printmaking classes in her home studio and also maintains an active exhibition schedule of her own work despite her intense commitment to teaching other artists . Sarah shows her work at Heather Gaudio Fine Art, CT, USA , Patricia Sweethow Gallery San Francisco , USA and is a rotating Adjunct Professor at Dartmouth, Williams and Bennington Colleges where she teaches Printmaking and Drawing.
